Apple to launch 16GB and 32GB iPad 3 alongside 8GB iPad 2
Surely Apple’s not going to trim the iPad 3’s storage capacity on March 7th. Or is it?
The iPad 3 will launch on March 7th in 16GB and 32GB versions, according to sources in Apple’s supply chain. Apple’s also expected to unveil an 8GB iPad 2 – but let’s be honest, you’re not bothered about that.
IfDigitimes‘ sources are correct, it’s a curious decision on Apple’s part, given that the iPad 2 andiPhone 4Sare both already available in a 64GB flavour and thatSamsung’s Series 7 slatepacks in a whopping 128GB of memory.
The skinny from the supply chain also suggests that the iPad 3 will pack in a 9.7in Full HD QXGA display with a 2048×1536 resolution.
We’re taking the storage claims with a truckload of salt – surely there’s going to be a 64GB version? – but maybe cramming in the backlighting for the iPad 3 screen and its4G connectivityhardware has forced Apple to make some sacrifices beyond the rumouredsize boost. It could also point to Apple trying to wean iPad users off flash memory and onto theiCloud.
