It’s important to update your Facebook password regularly to keep your profile out of the hands ofhackers. Read on to learn how to change your password in a few easy steps.

It can be tempting to repeat passwords across multiple platforms – especially if you feel like your word has the right combination of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and special characters to make it unbreakable. However, doing so means that if one of your passwords is ever breached, any account that shares that word is now vulnerable.

Open your Facebook news feed

Open your Facebook news feed

We’ll be using screenshots from the desktop browser version of Facebook in this guide, but you can also change your password on your phone or tablet.

Click the down arrow

This will be in the top-right corner.

Click Settings & Privacy

This is the icon that resembles a cog.

Click Settings

Or, the cog icon again.

Select Security And Login

You should see the heading on the left side of the page.

Click the Edit button next to Change Password

You might need to scroll down to find this option.

Enter your current password, along with the one you want to change it to

If you don’t know your current password but are logged in, just click Forgotten Your Password and follow the steps to reset it.

Hit Save Changes

That’s it! You’ll now be able to log in with the new password.

Troubleshooting

If you’re not logged into Facebook and want to change your password, you’re first going to need to recover your account.You can do this by going to theFind Your Accountpage, entering the email address or phone number associated with your account and clicking Search. Then simply follow the instructions on screen to reset your password using your Google account, email address or phone number.

If you’re logged out of your account and don’t have access to the email address or phone number associated with that account, you can try using any other email addresses or numbers that may have been listed on your account. Make sure to include your country code and leave out any plus signs or special characters when entering your phone number.If that doesn’t work, the next step is to contact you email service provider to see what they can do to help you recover your email account.
