Once upon a time, HTC used to be a pioneer in the Android smartphone segment. However, due to increased competition, the Taiwanese company now has a less prominent presence and often releases new devices with minimal fanfare. The company is still around though and has recently introduced two new tablets – the HTC A104 and HTC A102. The A104 has been officially launched in Russia, while the A102 was unveiled the month before.
HTC A104 is a tablet that has a 10.36-inch IPS LCD screen with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels. It has a 5-megapixel camera on both the front and back with LED flash. The device measures 243.8 x 162.6 x 8.5mm and weighs 533 grams. Under the hood, the tablet comes with Android 13 pre-installed and is powered by the Unisoc T606 chipset and a 7000mAh battery. It has 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
HTC A102has a screen size of 11 inches, which is slightly larger than others. The IPS LCD panel has a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels. It has a front camera of 8 megapixels and a back camera of 20 megapixels with LED flash. It runs an Android 12 OS out-of-the-box.
HTC A102 has a MediaTek Helio G85 chipset and a large 8,000mAh battery. It also has 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Other features include SIM support, 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, a microSD card slot, and a USB-C port. The device measures 245.6 x 155.36 x 8mm, and it weighs 460 grams.
HTC A104, A102 Pricing and Availability
HTC A102 tablet has been on sale in Russia since June for RUB 20,990 (~$233), whereas the A104 tablet, which is available in Black, costs RUB 17,730 (~$193). The A102 and A104 come in Silver and Black, respectively.
It’s interesting to see HTC trying to claw its way back into the market but the lower-priced Android tablet market has drastically changed due to the emergence of major players such as Chinese companies Lenovo and Huawei, along with smaller companies likeXiaomiestablishing their own niches. HTC, aiming to introduce affordable tablet options, will face stiff competition as the market is already saturated. Not to forget, Amazon has completely changed the market with the launch ofFire Max 11.
Another point to note is that HTC chose Russia as its target location. HTC launching its tablets in a country like Russia can be seen as a strategic move. Russia is a significant market with a large population and a growing demand for consumer electronics, including tablets. Following the Ukraine crisis, not many OEMs have been active in Russia. By introducing its tablets in Russia, HTC has the opportunity to tap into this market and potentially expand its customer base.
