PineTab 2 Linux Tablet with Improved Specs to Cost $159 and Above
Pine64 has launched the PineTab 2 with a faster processor, LPDDR4 memory, and a metal chassis. The tablet has a detachable backlit keyboard cover and modular architecture for easy repair and maintenance.

Pine64 has created an advanced version of its Linux tablet, the new and improved PineTab 2. Boasting improved specs and features such as a faster Rockchip RK3566 quad-core ARM Cortex-A55 processor to power the device, it’s no wonder this successor to the original PineTab promises better performance than ever before.
The PineTab 2 is touted as a completely redesigned model featuring a metal chassis that ensures durability and convenience for upgrades, maintenance, and repair. The entry-level model boasts 4 GB of LPDDR4 memory and 64 GB of eMMC storage, while the top-end variant has 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. All models are equipped with cutting-edge LPDDR4 memory, which improves performance characteristics.
PineTab 2 Lacks SSD slot but makes up with PCIe connectors
Unfortunately, the tablet doesn’t have an integrated SSD slot for improving speed by adding additional memory. But there are PCIe connectors that allow tech enthusiasts to experiment with external accessories in order to achieve different results. The device also offers USB 3.0 Type-C and USB 2.0Type- C ports, a micro HDMI port, a 3.5mm audio jack, as well as a microSD card slot if you require more storage capacity than what is already available on your device. Additionally, the tablet sports a 2MP front camera and a 5 MP rear camera for all imaging needs.
The PineTab model boasts an included detachable backlitkeyboardcover, making it easier to support a desktop OS on the device. Furthermore, its firmware chipset is identical to that of the PineBook Pro; thus assisting with this capability. As of now, no default OS has been set by Pine64.
The company declared that the PineTab 2 still contains other features found in the original PineTab. One can easily service and repair this tablet thanks to its modular architecture. The company also claims that users can swap internal components like USB keyboards, cameras, or even batteries within only five minutes. Even the IPS LCD panel is replaceable with similar ease.
Regarding cost, the PineTab 2 will be available for $159 and up. This includes a back-lit keyboard with the 4GB + 64GB model, while the 8 GB + 128 GB version is available for $209. While this price may seem more expensive than before at first glance (the original was priced around $100), it also covers any previously additional costs associated with purchasing a separate keyboard cover. The tablet is expected to launch on April 2023.
