Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 2018: Android 9.0 Pie Update Started
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 2018 is starting to get an OTA update to Android 9.0 Pie including Samsung’s One UI. Here is everything we know so far.

Samsung has started to roll out an update to Android 9.0 Pie for the one year oldSamsung Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018). In addition to the newest version of Android it also receives the so-called One UI. That’s the new custom interface replacing the previous Samsung Experience. As of now, the update is available for 4G versions in the UK only. However, other countries and the WiFi version should follow very soon.
The Galaxy Tab A 10.5 is getting a couple of new features withAndroid 9.0 Pie. Among those are a new night mode, a gesture navigation, and a new “Digital Wellbeing” menu in the settings. With that one, you can see how much time you’re spending with which apps. The software features should be identical to the ones of the new Galaxy Tab A 10.1 (2019) which is shipping with One UI out of the box.
If you own the Galaxy Tab A 10.5, you can check manually in the setting wether you’re able to download and install the Android 9 update already. For that, go to Settings – Software Update – and you can press the search button to check for updates.
Galaxy Tab A 10.5 With Android 9: Should You Get It?
I mention it in pretty much all of my Samsung tablet reviews: What software updates are concerned, Samsung is much better than all of its competitors. Usually, the Galaxy Tab A series gets at least two major updates. Android 9 Pie is the first one for the 10.5-inch tablet. Direct competitors are the Huawei MediaPad M5 Lite 10 and Lenovo Tab P10 which both are still running Android 8.

Because of this update, the Galaxy Tab A 10.5 stays competitive and continues to be a great choice for some. I can recommend it if you’re looking for a Samsung tablet with up to date software and four speakers.
However, if you don’t care about sound that much and need performance instead, you should check out the newerGalaxy Tab A 10.1 2019. While that one has two speakers only, its processor is much more powerful. So, you have to decide what’s more important to you. In most countries, prices are similar by now.
