In this comparison, we’ll take a closer look at these two tablets, shedding light on their specifications, performance, and overall value.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE vs Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022): Specs Overview

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE vs Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022): Specs Overview

Here’s a specifications table for a quick overview of both the tablets:

Design and Build

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE and the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) both have a premium feel to them, but there are some notable differences in design.

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE measures 165.8 x 254.3 x 6.5 mm and weighs 524 grams, making it slightly larger and heavier than the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. It has an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, which means it can withstand accidental spills and splashes.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) has a more compact form factor, measuring 244.5 x 154.3 x 7 mm and weighing 467 grams. While it lacks the IP68 rating, it still feels well-built and should handle everyday use without issues.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite lacks a dedicated Pogo pin keyboard connector, meaning that connecting an external keyboard will require either Bluetooth connectivity or a USB-C connection. Additionally, this tablet does not feature a fingerprint sensor, which means users have the option of using facial recognition or employing a PIN, pattern, or password for device unlocking. You get a Pogo pin keyboard connector along with a physical fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy Tab S9 FE.

Display

Both tablets feature large, high-resolution displays, but the Galaxy Tab S9 FE has an edge in a few areas. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE sports a 10.9-inch LCD display with a resolution of 2304 x 1440 pixels, a 16:10 aspect ratio, and a 90Hz refresh rate. The higher resolution and faster refresh rate result in crisper visuals and smoother scrolling and animations. This makes it ideal for watching movies, browsing the web, or playing games.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022), on the other hand, has a 10.4-inch TFT LCD screen with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels and a 5:3 aspect ratio. While the display is good for most tasks, it can’t quite match the vibrancy and sharpness of the Galaxy Tab S9 FE’s screen. While the display panel on the Tab S9 FE is not AMOLED, it supports Vision Booster technology for better color accuracy and offers a higher refresh rate of 90Hz, compared to the 60Hz of the Tab S6 Lite.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE pulls ahead with its hardware. It is equipped with Samsung’s Exynos 1380 Octa-Core processor, along with the Mali-G68 MP5 GPU. This combination promises snappy performance and the ability to handle demanding tasks, including gaming and multitasking with ease. With 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, you won’t have to worry about running out of memory.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022), on the other hand, packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor and 4GB of RAM. While this configuration can handle everyday tasks smoothly, it might struggle with more demanding applications or games. The storage options include 64GB and 128GB, with the flexibility to expand using a microSD card up to 1TB. However, the smaller amount of RAM compared to the S9 FE may limit its multitasking capabilities.

When it comes to benchmark performance, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE outshines the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) on Geekbench 5, reflecting its superior hardware and processing capabilities. Additional RAM is crucial for multitasking and running resource-intensive applications, giving the S9 FE another performance advantage in Geekbench 5 testing with its 6GB of RAM.

Camera and Battery

The camera capabilities of a tablet may not be a top priority for most users, but it’s worth mentioning the differences.

The Galaxy Tab S9 FE boasts an 8MP rear camera and a 12MP ultra-wide front camera. These cameras are more capable than what you’ll find on the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite. The S6 Lite features an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, which might be adequate for video calls but falls short in comparison to the S9 FE for photography and video recording.

In terms of battery life, both tablets pack ample battery capacities, but the Galaxy Tab S9 FE has a slight advantage. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE packs an 8000mAh battery, which should easily last a full day of use, even with the higher resolution and faster refresh rate display. It also supports 45W fast charging, although it’s worth noting that the charger is not included in the box.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is equipped with a 7040mAh battery. Charging speeds for the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite are limited to 15W, which, in today’s context, might be considered somewhat sluggish. This becomes particularly noticeable when charging the tablet’s larger battery.

Both tablets come with S-Pen support, but the Galaxy Tab S9 FE includes an S Pen, which is IP68-rated, making it water and dust resistant, and also features a side button for easier use. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite also comes with an S Pen. While it’s functional and responsive for writing and drawing, it lacks an IP68 rating and also the side button.

It’s essential to highlight that the S Pen provided with both Tab S6 Lite and Tab S9 FE does not require charging. This is because the S Pen lacks a battery, and the magnetic attachment serves a purely convenient purpose, allowing you to store the stylus wherever you prefer without concerns about a depleted battery.

Software and Connectivity

Both tablets run on Android 13 with Samsung’s One UI 5 interface, ensuring a modern and user-friendly experience. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite 2022 was launched with Android 12 and currently runs on Android 13 with Samsung’s One UI 5.1.Samsung has made a significant commitment to software support, guaranteeing up to four years of operating system updates for both tablets. This commitment suggests that the Tab S6 Lite is well-positioned to receive future Android OS versions, potentially extending its software support to Android 16 in the future while the Tab S9 FE will get up to Android 17.

In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy Tab S9 FE offers more options. It includes optional 5G support (depending on the variant), which can be a significant advantage for users looking for faster internet speeds and future-proofing. It also features Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, GLONASS, and USB Type-C.

The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022), on the other hand, supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, GLONASS, and USB Type-C. While it lacks 5G support, it should still provide a reliable internet connection in most situations.

Both tablets come with dual speakers, which is great for entertainment purposes. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE’s speakers are tuned by AKG and support Dolby Atmos, promising a more immersive audio experience.

Pricing

Pricing

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) is known for its affordability, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious users. Priced at $350, it provides a decent balance between cost and features, offering true value for those seeking a budget tablet. In contrast, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE starts at $450, positioning itself as a more mid-range option with some premium features. While it’s pricier, it aims to deliver additional value with a modern design and enhanced features.

Tab S9 FE vs Tab S6 Lite: Which One to Buy?

To conclude the Galaxy Tab S9 FE vs Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) comparison, we think both are solid tablets with their own set of advantages. The Galaxy Tab S9 FE stands out with its high-resolution 90Hz display, powerful performance, and more capable cameras. It also comes with a premium S Pen and offers 5G connectivity, making it a top choice for those who want the best tablet experience and are willing to invest in it.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) is a more budget-friendly option that still offers a quality tablet experience. It’s compact, lightweight, and suitable for everyday tasks. While it might not have the same high-end display and performance as the S9 FE, it remains a practical choice for casual users and those looking to stay within budget.

The choice between the two tablets will depend on your budget and requirements. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly tablet to handle your standard tasks, the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2022) is a great choice.
