Samsung has just unveiled its fourth generation of foldable smartphones, and some more refinements have been added to this pathbreaking form factor. Here’s what you need to know.
One of the most exciting developments of recent years in the smartphone market has been the emergence of folding phones, which offer greater possibilities than standard devices thanks to their unique form factor. TheGalaxy Z Fold 4could take these possibilities even further with some potential refinements, so read on for the official specs and price of this new device.
Release Date
The Fold 4 was announced on August 10 in a livestream event which you can re-watch in the embedded video below. Pre-orders went live immediately, and the release date isAugust 26.
Price
Just like last year, the new Galaxy Z Fold is prohibitively expensive. After all, it does boast top-end specifications all wrapped up in that daring and still somewhat experimental form factor.
The Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a starting price of$1,799/£1,649for the 256GB model, rising to £1,769 for the 512GB model, all the way up to a whopping £2,019 if you want 1TB of storage.
Specifications
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 measures 67.1×155.1×15.8mm when it’s folded up, and expands to 130.1×155.1×6.3mm when fully unfolded. It weighs 263g, all in all.
The external AMOLED screen measures 6.2-inches and has a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, while the larger internal screen measures 7.6-inches, has a 2176x1812p resolution, and has a fully adaptive 120Hz refresh rate.
The rear camera module offers three sensors in total; a 12-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 50-megapixel main camera, and a 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom. Underneath the internal display you’ll find a 4-megapixel selfie camera.
This device runs on the latestSnapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1chipset from Qualcomm, and all three storage variants boast 12GB of RAM.
The battery capacity is 4,400mAh, and this is supported by 2W fast-charging which Samsung claims can give you 50% charge in around 30 minutes.
